Nassau is a true tropical island paradise, and of course this comes with beautiful beaches to enjoy. Although many of the beaches surrounding Nassau are privately owned by hotels and resorts, there are also a number of free public beaches in the area that are just as beautiful, and offer excellent swimming and sunbathing. Following are a list of some of the best beaches in the area that are open to the public.

Love Beach

Love Beach is situated on the north shore of Nassau, just past Gambier Village, and is home to the world famous Compass Point Studios. It is situated nine miles out of downtown Nassau, and is well worth the trip – the beach is often practically deserted, and it is a prime snorkeling destination.

Junkanoo Beach

This beach is a small, secluded beach that is far less crowded than many other beaches in the region. It is in close proximity to downtown Nassau, and can easily be reached by foot. Most of the year, Junkanoo remains relatively quiet, however it can get busy during Spring Break. It is one of very few beaches in the area that has public toilets and changing facilities.

Cable Beach

Cable is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of the Bahamas, and is very conveniently situated close to most of the major hotels. As a result, however, it is often extremely crowded. To get a good spot on this beach, be sure to get there early and set up for the day.

South Beach

This beach is not often visited by tourists, but is a popular meeting spot for locals who gather there on the weekends to swim and sunbathe.

Caves Beach

This beach is almost as beautiful as Cable beach and much less crowded, as it is found further away from the major hotels and resorts. Caves beach is found on the northern shore of New Providence, and is a perfect beach destination if you’re looking to get away from the crowds.

Cabbage Beach

Cabbage beach is largely thought of as one of the best beaches in the world. It is found on Paradise Island, and many of the bigger hotels on the island can be found on this beach. This beach stretches for miles, and has a range of watersports equipment available to rent. Due to its proximity to the hotels, Cabbage Beach is often crowded, but can be quieter on the Eastern end.
