A traditional French silk pie is famous for its amazingly light texture and the heart warming taste of chocolate. The silk in the name is derived from the texture of the filling. Even though a French silk pie is an extremely delicious desert it is surprisingly easy to make as it involves no cooking or baking.

It is the perfect desert for a formal dinner which can be whipped up in a matter of half an hour and you will need another two hours to let it set in the refrigerator while you get ready for the big party. Traditionally, a French silk pie is a filling of chocolate mouse in a pie base but you can have other variations to this recipe. One such popular variation is the silk pie with peanut butter. It tastes equally delicious with the distinct flavor of peanut butter adding an exotic touch to the pie. Here is the recipe to make the peanut butter French silk pie.

You will need
A graham cracker 9 inch pie crust

For the fudge layer you will need

1 cup sugar, granulated
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 tablespoon corn syrup
2 ounces bitter sweet chocolate
1 big tablespoon of peanut butter

For the filling you will need
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups whipped topping
½ cup milk
½ cup peanut butter
8 ounces cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar.

Start by getting the crust ready. There are two ways of doing this if you want a soft crust you will need to mix 11/4 cup of graham cracker crumbs with ¼ cup sugar and 1/3 cup butter or margarine. Next taking a baking dish and pat this mixture evenly in it and put it in the refrigerator to chill for half an hour. If you want a crispy crust bake it for 7 minutes at 375 degrees.

In a saucepan, start by cooking the sugar, chocolate, milk and corn syrup. Continue cooking as you stir occasionally till you reach a soft ball stage. Now its time to mix in the peanut butter but remove the sauce pan from the fire before adding the peanut butter. Beat this mixture for a few minutes before pouring it onto the prepared pie crust.

Finally take a large mixing bowl and ad cream cheese, powdered sugar and peanut butter, beat these together. Once they are well mixed gently fold in the whipped cream. This will be the final layer of the pie and should be spooned onto the chilled pie. Finally garnish with chocolate shaving and whipped topping and your peanut butter French silk pie is ready to be eaten. Serve it chilled after cutting into slices of desired size.
