Indian wear suits have been endorsed by celebrities like Richard Gere, Jemima Goldsmith and Lady Diana. This fashion trend has spurred a global interest in Indian suits in the last decade. In fact in the past 20 years Indian designers have been able to showcase their collections to an international audience on a seasonal basis year after year.

Adaptation of Indian Suits For The International Consumer

From the basic embroidered and overdone traditional designs, today Indian wear suits are popular because of their sleek and modern cuts. Apart from this the level of embellishments and embroidery has been adapted to suit the different regions and requirements on a global level.

Of course with the evolution of the design elements the embroidery and embellishments are of a high degree of finish. In fact, designers go so far as to create bespoke outfits for professionals and socialites from across the world.

Indian designers have been quick to adapt their clothing to the needs of the international clientele. In fact the colors and cuts are concentrated on the requirements of the international market. However, the embellishments and design retain the traditional Indian beauty and the trends are gradually introduced into the global fashion market.

Good examples of this are the runway outfits created by Satya Paul, J J Valaya and Ritu Kumar for the Paris fashion week. The outfits utilize Indian designs in terms of fabric treatment and color dye but were used to create ball gowns, bustier, corsets and skirts. Slowly and gradually the Indian traditional outfits like the salwar kurta, sherwani or cape like coat for men, lengha choli which is similar to a long skirt and short gypsy blouse, were introduced into the world fashion industry.

Different Styles of Indian Suits

Indian fashion focuses on the use of traditional cloth to create beautiful outfits which are similar to the long pants and shirt worn abroad, the quintessential 5 1/2 yard saree and stunning blouses along with the lengha choli which is reminiscent of a gypsy skirt and midriff baring blouse. These are worn both casually and formally.

The sari is perhaps the most traditional outfit which identifies itself with Indian culture. This 5 1/2 yards of material is tucked on a thin underskirt and wrapped around the waist and then taken across the chest and draped over the shoulder. It personifies elegance and grace in its simplest form in plain cotton material. However, it can be dressed up in rich gold and silky material for weddings and parties also.

Similarly the skirt and blouse known as the lengha and choli also are created out of fancy materials which are decorated with silken thread embroidery and the latest use of crystals and beads.

Perhaps the only thing to match the Indian saree in its popularity and commonality is the Indian salwar suit. This is also available in fancy or basic everyday materials and can be decorated and designed by regular tailors across the country. The designs are catered to providing a comfortable outfit for women who want to cover up modestly and want more mobility as compared to the sari.
