Situated at the bosom of the Mexican plateau, Zacatecas was established sometime in 1546 when the rich mine deposits were discovered. This is why Zacatecas was previously known as the Mines of the Zacatecas. Zacatecas is located in a mountainous area of Mexico. It has many rivers and streams originating from mountain ranges that form valleys where many settlements and industries can be found. The climate in Zacatecas is characterized by semi-arid steppe type although the area also experiences snow and rainfall during certain periods of the year.

Zacatecas Agriculture

Zacatecas has a very diverse collection of floras and faunas. There is a huge presence of mesquite, cactus and agave along with other plants that can be found on any semi-desertic region. The agricultural industry of Zacatecas has improved greatly over the years. The agricultural land of Zacatecas is mostly devoted to raising poultry and growing cereals and grain products. There are tracts of land too on which vegetables and other fruit crops are grown. Cattle ranches are thriving in many parts of Zacatecas.

The primary source of revenue of Zacatecas is mining. There are valuable mineral deposits like silver, gold, antimony, bismuth, lead, iron, mercury and many more. Because of the very rich silver deposit of Zacatecas, Mexico is the biggest producer in the world.

Towns in Zacatecas

Zacatecas also takes pride in many of its tourist destinations. Among the major tourist spots in Zacatecas are: La Noria, City of Zacatecas, Jerez and Sombrerete. Zacatecas is a place of deep religious activism. Towering cathedrals and spacious churches are quite remarkable proofs of this assertion. The design of plazas and major thoroughfares are commonly connected to a church. Festivals with religious orientation are common events in Zacatecas. Most people in Zacatecas are Roman Catholics. Almost any aspect of life in Zacatecas in the great country of Mexico is rooted to Christianity. The arts, architecture, engineering and general way of life are predominantly of Christian orientation.
