Fuerteventura is an island of Spain, situated within the group of Canary Islands. It is the perfect destination when in need of relaxation, fun, and sun, sea and sand. If one wants to learn more about the culture and history of Spain this may not be the best destination though as it is more of a resort island destination.

Below is a short compilation of some of the best things to do while on holiday in Fuerteventura, Spain.

Beaches

Being an island, there are countless beautiful beaches in Fuerteventura. Some of the beaches are private and are restricted only to those who are staying at that particular hotel. Some of the best hotels on the island are located directly on the beach, making for easy access. Some of these even have cold water pools located right next to the beach, which is ideal for people who love being in the water. From the beaches one can take part in a wide variety of different water sports and activities.

Water Activities

Wind surfing is one of the bigger water sports, as well as fishing, snorkelling, and diving. One can even buy a space on a submarine to view the beautiful, exotic marine life under the surface of the water.

One can also catch a boat to go sailing. Or rent a kayak, or a motorcycle or car with which to tour the island. Of course, it would not be an ideal beach destination without the surfing, or kiteboarding. The island has a lot of wind and so is popular with wind surfers.

On Land Activities

Of the many things to do in Fuerteventura one of the most unique activities is to go sand skiing. The island has huge, untouched sand dunes which almost resemble a desert. People who enjoy skiing can try skiing on sand in the protected national park of Parque de Nacional de las Dunas.

Women can enjoy shopping and buying different mementos to remind them of their trip and to gift people back home. The island has many stores selling different items. There is even a shopping centre on the island.

Bird Watching

Bird watching is another activity that the island offers. Inland in the mountainous areas of the island one can see birds of prey such as Egyptian Vultures and Osprey. The best times to go bird watching on the island are before 10 in the morning and after 4 in the afternoon. One can also see the Guirre which is a migratory bird famous for eating dead goats, excrement and rubbish.

The island often has music festivals and concerts around the summer time, as well as a kite festival. There are craft fairs, bicycle routes to take to explore the island, casinos, water parks, and even trips to nearby islands with volcanoes.

During the warm nights adults can hop between the different bars, restaurants and cafes. More adult activities include trips to the spas which are plentiful around the island. Also available are golf courses and guided tours around the island.

Regardless of your age, interests, or fitness level, you are guaranteed to find activities that you will like in Fuerteventura. At least, even if there is no activity that one is used to, there are enough new things to try. And, if in need of a relaxing time there are always the golden sand beaches.
