Chapel Bridge is considered to be a symbol of Lucerne dating back to the 14th century. Chapel Bridge in Lucerne was mostly destroyed by a fire in 1993; however, it was soon rebuilt using materials and methods that tried to be in keeping with the original structure. Unfortunately, the painted roof panels of the bridge which were one of its main attractions were mostly destroyed in the fire.

The Lion Monument of Lucerne

The Lion Monument of Lucerne is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Lucerne. This statue of an injured and dieing lion accompanied by a spear is a monument that was originally built to commemorate the massacre of 700 mercenaries from Switzerland. The Swiss mercenaries were working for the French Royal Family during the time of the French Revolution when they were overpowered and put to death by the French revolutionary forces.

The Bourbaki Panorama is an interesting permanent artistic exhibit in Lucerne. This large, circular panorama painting depicts scenes from the Franco-Prussian war.

The History Museum of Lucerne

The History Museum of Lucerne is located on the south bank of the river that runs through the city. This museum is housed in a building that used to be the town’s arms supply and still exhibits many displays related to the military history of Lucerne.
