Things to do in Hua Hin & Cha-Am Thailand

If you’re looking for a quiet escape from the crowds in Bangkok then a visit to Hua Hin & Cha-Am in Thailand may be just the thing for you.

Although little known Hua Hin & Cha Am are the oldest tourist destinations in Thailand being used by the Thai Royal family, aristocracy and foreign dignitaries as early a the 1920’s.  Situated approximately 250 km south of Bangkok Hua Him & Cha Am are two small and quiet towns neighboring one another.

Beaches in Hua Hin & Cha Am

The beaches at Hua Hin & Cha Am are among the cleanest and quietest in Thailand making it a nice alternative to the popular tourist beaches on Phuket, Pattaya and Koh Samui.   Lining much of the shoreline are high end luxury resorts and spas where you can receive the first class treatments of your choice including massages, pedicures and mud baths.  Most foreign visitors to Hua Hin & Cha-Am  stay at these resorts where prices are not cheap; however, the service is said to be excellent. There is plenty of space at these hotel resorts throughout most of the year; however there is a brief peak season which occurs in December & January during which prices rise and it would be best to book well ahead.

Horseback riding in Hua Hin & Cha-Am

Horse back riding is a popular activity along the beaches at Hua Hin and Cha-Am with dozens of individual locals riding up and down the shore trying to rent out their hoses to you for an hour. The typical hourly rate is 500B and depending on how good you are with a horse you can either be accompanied or ride alone.

Khao Takiap Viewpoint at Hua Hin & Cha Am

Located just south of hua Hin is a viewpoint on the hills from where a spectacular view of Hua Hin and the Gulf of Thailand can be seen below. There is also a big Buddha statue facing the sea which makes for a nice photo opportunity.

Night Market at Hua Hin

Like most towns in Thailand hua Hin has its own night market which is open every night of the week and features the usual array of small stalls selling foods, clothes and various other goods. The Hua Hin night market is located on the Decha Nuchit road.

Mareukatayawan Palace at Hua Hin

This palace was built in the 1920’s by King Rama VI as a royal retreat. The palace today is no longer used by the Royals and is open to the public from 8.30am -4pm. Admission is free.
