Smoked Turkey Breast

Interested in smoked turkey breasts? Learn how to make delicious smoked turkey breast at home…

Traditionally making smoked turkey breast demands a lot more time and energy compared to cooking other turkey recipes, but the effort is well worth it. Once you select a good succulent bird you must let it sit in a brine solution overnight. This will make it a little salty but the meat will be exceptionally moist and tender.
Once the turkey has been treated in brine, make sure you rinse it well and then pat it dry. A dry turkey will ensure a crisp and golden sheen on the skin.

Seasoning the Smoked Turkey

Heat ½ cup honey and 1 tablespoon of butter in a saucepan over a low flame till the butter melts. Stir to combine evenly. Remove from flame and add the juice of one fresh lemon and season with ½ teaspoon salt. Cool completely.

Season the dry turkey breast with the brine solution and leave in the fridge for a maximum of 24 hours. Season the turkey with spices and herbs of your choice before you smoke it.

Heat the smoker to 225 degrees F and then oil the grates so that the meat does not stick to it. For a good smoking session you will need to ensure that the temperature stays between 225-250 degrees F. Make a combination of smoking chips like apple and oak. You simply need three fistfuls which are added at intervals during the smoking process in order to achieve a subtle flavor.

A turkey is generally smoked for 30-40 minutes per pound and it is recommended to baste it with light melted butter a few times. Insert a meat thermometer in the thigh. When it reads 170 degrees F you should remove the turkey. Cover it with foil and let it sit in the tent with the breast side down to soak in the juices and firm up for  half an hour.
