Turkey legs offer a great alternative to chicken drumsticks. You can prepare them by baking or using a turkey smoker to create different recipes for various occasions.

For the most delicious smoked turkey legs you will need large-size turkey legs. Place them in a large pan and pour 1 cup orange juice and half a cup of pineapple juice and crushed pineapple chunks over the legs.

Sprinkle half a cup of light brown sugar over the turkey drumsticks. Sprinkle different spices of your choice on top of the turkey meat and let it marinate after rubbing it completely inside the meat.

Injectable Marinade for Turkey Leg Recipe

Mix half a cup of brown spicy mustard, 1 1/2 ounce of soy sauce and 1 1/2 ounce of Worcestershire sauce. Pour this into an injector needle and start injecting the sauces into the drumsticks.

Marinating Time for Turkey Legs

Marinate in the fridge for two hours or overnight. Remove from the refrigerator and bring the meat to room temperature before you start to smoke it.

Cooking the Turkey Legs

Using the wood smoker heated at 275°F place the drumsticks in the smoker for three hours and cook them. Next remove and place the turkey legs in a large aluminum pan and cover it up with tinfoil on top. Cook in the smoker for another hour to roast it completely. Baked Turkey Leg Recipe

For a fabulous baked turkey leg recipe you will need 4 turkey drumsticks, with or without the thighs.  Wash and dry them properly.  In a separate bowl mix in 1 cup of flour and season it with one teaspoon of salt and one fourth teaspoon of pepper along with 1/4 teaspoon of red chili powder. Coat the turkey with the mixture and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Then heat 6 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a heavy bottomed frying pan on medium heat. Fry the turkey legs and brown them on all sides on high or medium heat.

Preparing the Sauce for Baked Turkey Legs

In a separate bowl mix 1/2 cup of orange marmalade with half a cup of ready-made chili sauce and 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 1 teaspoon of celery seeds along with one teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce.

Baking the Turkey Legs

Place the turkey legs in a shallow baking dish and coat evenly on both sides with the sauce. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Preheat your oven to 300°F. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake the turkey legs or thighs for one hour or 1 1/2 hours until done.

Make sure you baste it at least twice with the sauce from the bottom of the pan during the cooking procedure. To check if the meat is ready, insert a meat thermometer to determine whether the temperature is 185°F, which signals that the meat is ready to serve.
