African American Lace Wigs

There are actually two types of African American lace wigs, the full lace and front lace wigs. African American celebrities such as Tyra Banks and Beyonce use African American lace wings so read on to know more about this fashion trend.

Full Lace Wigs

The full lace wig is made up of all lace materials and originated from Malaysia, Brazil, India and Europe. When the full lace wig is properly attached to the hair, it can create a natural look and you can style it with whatever hairstyle you want. Most African American women like using African American lace wigs because these wigs are versatile and also comfortable to wear.
When putting on a full lace wig, make sure that your hair is straightened or flattened. Practice putting on the wig first to see if you need to make any adjustments. Cut the excess lace to make it look more like your natural hairline. Wear a wig cap to cover your entire hair before putting on the wig. If you have sensitive skin, you may use a scalp protector to protect your scalp from itching or rashes.

Front Lace Wigs

The difference between a full lace wig and a front lace wig is the coverage and versatility. A full lace wig covers the entire head and can be styled in any way you like while a front lace wig covers only the hairline area and has limited styling capability. One good thing about front lace wigs is that it enhances your hairline and therefore makes the wig look natural.
One of the materials used to make African American lace wigs is the Swiss lace. This type of lace  is so thin and fine that when you use it, it is hard to distinguish whether it is your natural hairline or just the front lace wig. Another material that is used for front lace wigs is the French lace. However, French lace is not as fine and can be somehow obvious when you wear it.

Lace Wigs Maintenance and Care

Caring for your lace wigs is like caring for your hair. African American lace wigs are easy to wash and maintain. It is time to wash your wig when it becomes lifeless or sticky. You may also wash it when you want to get rid of the gel or setting lotion that you have applied when you styled it. Dry your lace wig by patting it with a clean towel. Do not wring or squeeze your wig because it might lose its shape.

You must also keep in mind that using the proper hair care products can make it last longer. There are actually wig care products specially designed for your lace wig. Store your lace wig at room temperature and hang it on a wig head to keep its shape.
