Ash Cottage Wales

Wales is the ideal location for a cottage holiday and the Gower Peninsula in South Wales is famous for its stunning coastline. In the heart of the coastal village of Horton sits Ash Cottage, the perfect place to stay if you want to make the most of the local beaches and countryside.

A traditional Gower cottage in the quiet village of Horton, Ash cottage is fully equipped to offer you a worry-free holiday.  With one double and one twin bedroom, plus a double sofa bed available on request, the cottage can sleep up to six people.  Two fully fitted shower rooms will mean you’re not all queuing up in the morning and bed linen and towels are included.  The modern kitchen includes an American fridge freezer which will keep you topped up with ice and chilled drinking water on sunny days.

There is also a dishwasher, washer/dryer, double oven with ceramic hob and microwave.  A more traditional living room offers a wood burning stove which sits within a large inglenook fireplace.  The entertainment, however, is far from rustic with a large DVD library and surround sound which can all be enjoyed on a large flat screen television.  The beautiful south-facing garden offers a decking area with a barbecue and a lawned terrace with comfortable seating for a sunset glass of wine.

Local beaches to explore

Step out of the front door and it’s just a short walk down to the beach.  You can easily access the coastal path for scenic walks along the cliffs and beaches.  Popular beaches within 10 minutes drive include Rhossili Beach, Three Cliffs Bay and Oxwich Bay.  Rhossili is a tranquil beach community on the south-western tip of the Gower Peninsula.  In 1887 a ship called the Helvetica ran aground here and its wreck is still prominent on Rhossili beach at low tide.

Another popular feature of the bay is Worm’s Head, a rocky tidal island which stretches out into the sea.  At low tide you can walk out along the rocks to explore the island but make sure you check the tide tables or you may be swimming back!  Three Cliffs Bay is a popular blue flag beach which appeared in a Red Hot Chilli Peppers video and Oxwich Bay is a 2.5 mile long stretch of sand popular with windsurfers, sailors, divers and swimmers.

Bring your horse with you!

An unusual feature of Ash Cottage is that you can bring along an equine friend and they will be accommodated just as well as you are on the local farm pasture.  There is a popular hack over Cefn Bryn with fantastic panoramic views.
