Elder Cottage Wales

Carmarthenshire in South West Wales is one of the thirteen historic counties and known as ‘the garden of Wales’ thanks to its rolling landscapes and numerous botanical visitor attractions. When visiting such a scenic area, you’ll want somewhere equally beautiful to stay. Look no further than the charming Elder Cottage. Read our guide for more facts and information…

Elder Cottage is one of four fantastic barn conversions located on a working farm just three miles from the sleepy coastal village of Kidwelly.  The cottages have been converted from original farm buildings including a dairy and a piggery.  All of the properties retain their original charm with oak woodwork and stone walls.

The cottages can be rented individually or together with all four cottages providing accommodation for up to thirty people – perfect for a family get together or group holiday.  Each cottage has its own private garden but there is also a shared garden for all to enjoy with a pond populated with black geese and plenty of rabbits.  Keen anglers can make use of access to a one mile stretch of the River Gwendreath which is known for brown trout and sewin (sea trout).

Elder Cottage

A perfect place for a family holiday, Elder cottage has a snug living room with a wood burning stove which is perfect for staying cosy on cooler nights, unless you’re in the hot tub that is.  Yes, Elder Cottage is unusual amongst holiday cottages in the area in that it offers a private hot tub and Jacuzzi for a little touch of luxury.  The kitchen is fully equipped including a washing machine and dishwasher and the cottage also has wireless internet access.

The living room will cater for all your entertainment needs with a TV, DVD and CD player. There are four bedrooms, two doubles and two singles, and a cot is available on request as is a high chair and a stair gate.  With three family size bathrooms there’ll be no queues to shower when you get back from the beach and linen and towels are provided.  Stepping outside, Elder Cottage enjoys a large enclosed garden so the kids and pets can play outside in total safety.  A sunny patio area equipped with a barbecue and dining furniture is ready and waiting for a relaxed outdoor evening meal.  The cottage has parking for four cars.  Two well-behaved dogs are permitted.  Apologies but the property is strictly no smoking.

Surrounding area

Nearby Kidwelly offers plenty of shops and pubs as well as an impressive Norman castle which featured in the film ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’.  Another popular local attraction is the Ffos Las Racecourse which is fast becoming one of the most popular in the UK with regular meets all year round.  If you’re feeling active, don’t miss the Pembrey Country Park which offers horse riding, dry slope skiing, a toboggan run and crazy gold amongst many other things.  The park also offers a long, safe sandy beach with plenty of facilities for families.  For a more relaxed day, take a wander around the Wildfowl and Wetlands Park or stroll around the shopping streets of Llanelli.
