Ancient Egyptian Reincarnation

Intrigued by the Ancient Egyptian reincarnation concept? Read on to discover what the reincarnation meant in ancient Egyptian times...

The rich history of ancient Egypt spans thousands of years and is highly spiritual in nature. There was a lot of focus on reincarnations which led to the creation of mummies and the art of mummification.

Ancient Egyptian Reincarnation

Every aspect of the life of the Egyptian people was governed by benevolence from their gods and goddesses.

This included fertility of the land, the winds, water, air as well as sustenance and nourishment that they received.

The ancient Egyptians believed that there was an after-life and the human body would be transported from this world to a replica of the same Egyptian paradise in the higher planes of the other world which was home to the divinity.

Concept of Reincarnation of Ancient Egyptians

The ancient Egyptians considered the human beings and Cosmos to be interlinked. Divinity was thought to occur due to the outer space and cosmic sources. Divinity was consistently thought to be evolving and be all present.

The material side of divinity was reflected in the human body and they also followed the evolution process by improving themselves and conducting their lives in a manner which allowed them to return back to the Divine mind.

Outer space was considered the germinating source for all other life forms. And growth is found through the powers of deities and their desire to continue creating new life forms. Ancient Egyptians believed that the human soul is not mortal and in fact seizes to live in the human body when it perishes.

Upon the death of a human being, the soul is really transferred to another living creature and becomes manifest in the world again. This process is achieved by the human soul passing through different creatures in the air, land and sea and ends up eventually in the human body and form at birth. This process is considered to take approximately 3000 years and was penned down by Pythagoras who lived many years in Egypt.

This process can be considered as a strong part of Egyptian heritage because there are certain kings whose names also signified this belief. The splendor of Egypt is reminiscent in the names that depict the essence of the God or Goddesses and if you consider the names of the King Amonemhat I, it translates into ‘he who repeats births.’ Apart from this the vital essence of the King Setekhy I from the 19th dynasty can be translated to mean ‘repeater of births’, whereas the essence shown in the name of Senusert I is ‘he whose births live.’

Preparation for Reincarnation by Ancient Egyptians

Osiris or the God of dead is also connected with the Egyptian concept of reincarnation. The human soul is not actually the component which passes through all the living materials but refers to the cosmic materials like atoms and molecules. Death is considered an initiation from one level of being to another higher-level of self becoming.

The Egyptians considered the human soul to be undergoing some processes in the grave also. The aim of Egyptian Reincarnation is to reach the ultimate spiritual levels and reflect very high quality of a superior and evolved soul. For this reason the deceased in Egypt were mummified and protected from the adventures in the grave by clothing them and preserving them beautifully for the journey to the after life.
