While touring Argentina, one place you should definitely put on your itinerary is Iguazu Falls. These are the largest series of water falls in the world. Read our guide for more facts and information…
The falls are located on the Iguazu River at the Brazilian state of Parana and the Argentinian province of Misiones. The falls divide the Iguazu River between the upper and lower river. There are roughly 200 cataract type falls, with heights of individual falls varying between 200 and 226 feet. Numerous islands are interspersed between the falls.
Iguaza Tours
As far as the tours themselves go, it is your decision as to how long you spend and how much money you wish to allow for. If you desire, you can take an aerial tour by helicopter from the Brazilian side of the falls. Or you may decide on a day trip. Tour packages for several days and nights are also available, with nights booked at one of the hotels actually overlooking the falls. For less money you can book a hotel in the area with no falls view.
Accommodations will be an integral part of the tour costs. You will have the choice as to what type of hotel you wish to stay in, ranging from standard to the deluxe rooms. Usually included in the accommodations fee is a daily breakfast. There are National forests on both countries’ sides of the falls. Some tours include admission to these while some don’t, so be sure to check before booking the tour.
Access to the Falls
On the Argentine side, there are three main divisions of the falls. The upper falls, lower falls and an area called the Devil’s Throat. Access on the Argentine side is facilitated by a train that will take you right up to the falls of the Devil’s Throat as well as the other two areas. There is also a walkway that will take you over the falls of Devil’s Throat. For a real thrill you can take a boat ride that will actually park beneath one of the falls.
The beauty of the Iguaza Falls can be favorably compared with any falls. Upon seeing the Iguazu Falls, Eleanor Roosevelt said “poor Niagara”. Indeed the falls at Iguazu are so beautiful, you will feel that any falls pale in comparison. This is what brings the tourists to the falls in flocks. Just as Niagara Falls are noted as a place for honeymooners, so are the Iguaza Falls. Seeing them is an experience not to be forgotten.
