French Foreign Legion
French Foreign Legion posts cover the volunteer infantry corps of the French Army, founded in 1831 and based today at Aubagne near Marseille. Articles look at the recruitment process for foreign volunteers, the famous stand at Camerone in Mexico in 1863 that the Legion still commemorates every April, the Algerian war years, the long deployments in French Polynesia and Djibouti, and the path through which a legionnaire can earn French citizenship. There are also notes on the white kepi, the slow march, the green and red beret variants and the strict discipline inside basic training at Castelnaudary.
