Regular Turkey Legs Recipe
It approximately one and a half hours to prepare this recipe, which uses 3 pounds of turkey legs. You can incorporate the turkey thighs if you desire.
Seasoning the Turkey Legs
Start by cutting the thighs and separate them from the legs of the turkey. Next rub the turkey legs with half a lemon and season the meat with 1 teaspoon of salt, half a teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder as well as 1/4 teaspoon of crumbled and dried thyme. Rub this mixture very gently all over the turkey pieces.
Preparing the Vegetables
In a heavy pan, melt 1/4 cup of butter and sauté one finely chopped yellow onion till it is translucent, which should take approximately 5 minutes. Chop up 2 to 3 carrots into half-inch pieces and add them to the onion.
Season with three ribs of celery, again sliced into half-inch pieces, along with a medium-sized potato, which has been cubed into half-inch pieces. Season with half a teaspoon of salt and combine gently so that the vegetables are completely coated with the butter.
Preparing the Turkey Legs for Baking
Grease a 9 x 2″ x 13″ baking casserole. Spread the vegetables on the base of the casserole and layer the turkey legs on top of the vegetables. Heat half a cup of chicken broth and bring it to boil, pour this over the turkey and bake the casserole for one and a half hours at 400° F or until the meat is tender and juices have become clear.
In case the turkey starts browning too quickly and it is still under cooked on the inside, cover it with foil and continue baking till tender. This recipe can serve four people with a wholesome and nutritious meal.
Barbecue Flavored Turkey Legs
Barbecue flavor turkey legs are seasoned with liquid smoke, which gives them a smoky flavor even though they are baked in a conventional oven. This process takes approximately 2 hours to prepare turkey legs for 4-6 servings.
Preparations for BBQ Flavored Turkey Legs
Take 6 turkey legs and season with salt and pepper to taste. In a separate bowl mix 1 tablespoon of yellow onion that has been finely chopped, 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup of tomato ketchup, 1/4 cup of molasses and 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce. For a smoky flavor add in a dash of liquid smoke.
Baking the Turkey Legs
Mix these well to make a thick sauce and pour them over the turkey legs. Heat oven to 325°F and place the turkey legs in a shallow casserole. Bake for 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours or until the meat is tender. Check the meat by poking with a fork. Serve with mashed potatoes or cranberry jelly.
