The turkey bird can be used to prepare a variety of different kinds of meals. Among the most popular turkey based dishes is the turkey noodle casserole. This is an easy to make yet tantalizing treat that is rich with flavor.

Turkey Noodle Casserole Ingredients

In order to prepare turkey noodle casserole you will need extra wide egg noodles, extra virgin olive oil, turkey slices, ground turkey breast, trimmed mushrooms, onions, poultry seasoning, dried thyme, chicken stock, heavy cream, grated nutmeg, softened butter, grated gruyere, chopped parsley leaves, bread crumbs and salt and pepper to taste.

Making the Turkey Noodle Casserole

Start off by bringing a large pot of water to a boil into which you place the egg noodles. After the noodles boil salt the water and bring the noodles to al dente firmness. After that you need to preheat a large and deep skillet on medium heat. Add the extra virgin oil to about one third of the pan. Next up you need to add the turkey slices into the pan. The turkey slices need to be cooked until they start to turn brown at the edges which should take about two to three minutes. Put in the ground meat and make it brown using a wooden spoon to crumble it.

You will need to make some space in the pan where you can put the mushrooms and onions. For this all you need to do is move the contents to one side of the pan and add the mushrooms and onions on the other side. Cook them for about five minutes after which you need to combine them with the meat. Use salt and pepper to season the mixture. You also need to add the poultry seasoning at this point. If you cannot find poultry seasoning then you can make use of ground thyme for the seasoning instead.
You will need to continue cooking for about another five minutes after which you need to deglaze the pan. Make sure you lift up all the drippings and bits from the pan. Next you need to add the stock and bring it to a bubble following which you will stir in the cream and bring the heat to low. You can adjust the taste with seasonings.

Next you need to preheat the broiler on high. Combine the turkey with the noodles and the sauce. Grease your casserole dish using softened butter inside a piece of paper towel following which you need to add the turkey and noodle mixture to the dish. Now you need to garnish the contents with gruyere and bread crumbs. For the final touch you need to place the casserole dish into the broiler and cook for about three minutes until you find the cheese melting and the breadcrumbs turning brown. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
