Blackfoot Native Americans
Blackfoot Native Americans posts focus on the Blackfoot Confederacy, made up of the Siksika, Kainai, Northern Piegan and Southern Piegan, whose historic territory ran across what is now southern Alberta and northern Montana. Articles look at the Sun Dance ceremony, the buffalo-jumping tradition at Head-Smashed-In, the smallpox epidemics of the nineteenth century, treaty 7 in 1877 and the long fight to reclaim sacred bundles from museums. Posts also cover the modern Blackfeet Nation and the Kainai reserve, including community-run interpretive sites and the annual North American Indian Days.
