Vicenza is a small town located in the north east of Italy. Vicenza is the capital of the Veneto region which also includes the famous Italian town of Venice. Vicenza is located about 200km east of Milan.  The town of Vicenza has a population of just over 110,000 and has traditionally been a major centre of the Italian textile industry. In recent years Vicenza has become a producer of computer parts. Although Vicenza is not a major city on the average tourist’s itinerary, it’s proximity to Venice and the presence of a few buildings and sights of interest make it worthy of at least a short stop over. Palladiana Basilica in Vicenza

The Basicilica Palladiana is one of the finest pieces of architecture in Vicenza and dates back to the mid 16th century. The Basilica was designed by the famous Italian architect Andrea Palladio whose works were influential on the development of renaissance architecture in Italy.  The Basilica Paddiana is centrally located in the Piazza dei Signori which makes it easily accesible and a good place from which to embark on a sightseeing tour of Vicenza.

Civico Museum in Vicenza

The Civico Museum in Vicenza is an excellent place to visit for those who are interested in local art. This museum specialises in Italian art predominantly from the Veneto region and its exhibitions span several centuries. Opening times for this museum in Vicenza are from 9am to 5pm.

Monte Berico Basilica in Vicenza

The Monte Berico Basilica is located on a hill on the outskirts of the city centre of Vicenza. This makes it a great place to visit in order to get a good view of the entire city of Vicenza below and is generally more tranquil than other sightseeing attractions located in the centre of Vicenza. The current building on this spot in Vicenza dates back to the 18th century, although the significance of the actual place dates back much further. This is supposedly the place where the Virgin Mary made two miraculous appearances. This basilica in Vicenza opens at 6.15am and closes at 7.30pm, although it closes for two hours in the afternoon from 12.30.

Archaeology Museum in Vicenza

The Archaeology Museum in Vicenza is not a major attraction for tourists although it does have an interesting, if not somewhat small, collection of artefacts that were excavated locally.
