Russian Night Vision Goggles And Scopes

Russian night vision goggles and scopes use advanced electronic-cum-optical technology, and form ideal night vision gadgets for a clear and constant view of objects and surroundings in the dark. Read our guide for more facts and information about nig

Originally, night vision technology made its debut during World War II, and has been popular since the Vietnam War. Night vision devices such as goggles and scopes were used to locate enemy targets in the dark. The military has invariably been using them for targeting, navigation and surveillance. Police also use them for surveillance, while hunters and nature-lovers use these monocular and binocular devices to observe nocturnal wild life.  Cameras with night vision devices are used in business firms for monitoring, and investigators and detectives also use them to a great extent.

Russian night vision devices

Russian night vision goggles, scopes, cameras and binoculars are available as lightweight and sturdy devices, with remarkable durability and functionality. Made of fiber glass or reinforced plastic, they are handy and water-resistant, allowing several adjustment options. Besides the prevalent military use, these devices are offered for civilian use also. Most manufacturers sell these battery operated devices with a video guide, manual, carrying case and lithium batteries.

Russian night vision goggles and scopes

Night vision goggles are worn on the head or are handheld devices, with two eye pieces. They may have one intensifier tube, sending the same image to each eye; or two intensifier tubes, sending separate images for each eye. Such goggles form night vision binoculars when coupled with magnification lenses. Enhanced vision systems (EVS), incorporated in today’s avionic packages, aid pilots to be aware of cirrus surroundings, thereby avoiding accidents. These goggles are also used in helicopter operations.

Night vision scopes are either handheld or mounted on a weapon, and are monocular devices with single eye pieces. Unlike goggles, they are not worn by the user, enabling to easily switch to normal view after getting a look at the concerned object. Passive night vision scopes collect and amplify light, while active scopes amplify as well as enhance images. Exclusive hunting scopes are available which are rifle mounted, and some advanced scopes virtually turn a dark night to day.

The technology behind Russian night vision devices

While viewing through a night vision device, it is the electronic amplified image on a phosphor screen that is viewed; hence the viewer does not actually look through it. Russian night vision devices have an infrared illuminator built inside and are sensitive to the light spectrum ranging from infrared to visible.

Thermal imaging technology is a mechanism wherein the upper portion of infrared light spectrum is captured, as it involves heat emitted by objects or bodies rather than the light reflected. In the image enhancement technology, minute quantities of light are gathered, including that from the lower portion of the infrared spectrum, and then amplified so that the image is visible to the human eye.

Advanced Russian technology has enhanced the scope, range and power of these devices, introducing the fourth generation equipment. Besides their use in military, police and private investigative operations, they are widely used in home surveillance, stargazing and hunting in the dark. Digital night vision devices can be used during both in night and day without posing harm to the sensitive imaging tubes.
