Read our guide for more facts and information…

Estuary cottage offers two double rooms, the Balcony Room and the Garden Room.  The Balcony room enjoys its own private entrance and, as the name suggests, a private balcony bedecked with hanging plants.  From the balcony there are views over the shared garden to Snowdonia National Park in the distance and the picturesque town of Portmerion. The Balcony Room is king size ensuite with a bistro table and chairs and a mini fridge.

The Garden Room is a double ensuite with its own private outdoor sitting area.  The wood-clad walls are reminiscent of a log cabin and big French windows open straight onto the garden, bringing the outside in.  The Garden Room also enjoys panoramic views of Snowdonia.  Both rooms offer tea and coffee making facilities, satellite TV with a DVD player and wireless internet connection.

The Caravan

If you wish to be more independent, a caravan within the grounds of the cottage offers self-catering accommodation.  A double bedroom, ensuite shower room, kitchen and lounge/dining room provide everything you need for your holiday.  On top of this, the Estuary Cottage caravan is far more private and quiet than the standard caravan or touring park you may expect on holiday because you’ll be the only ones there!  The caravan also offers a TV and DVD player for cosy nights in with a film.

Shared facilities

A shared guest lounge has a TV and log burner and is a great place to socialise with other guests on chilly nights.   The large garden can be used by all guests and has an ornamental pond as well as swings and a grassy space for children to play.  The bed and breakfast option is very popular and the cottage guestbook contains numerous rave reviews about the freshness of the eggs and bacon.  The popular verdict is that an Estuary Cottage breakfast will keep you going until dinner!  The cottage also sits just a stone’s throw from Talsarnau station so is perfectly situated for getting around if you don’t have a car.  If you do, there’s plenty of parking so you win either way!

Train travel with a difference

A short distance from Estuary Cottage you’ll find the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways.  Ffestiniog takes you thirteen and a half miles through through the Welsh countryside from Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, climbing from sea level to over seven hundred feet.  As you make your way up into the mountains you’ll pass waterfalls, lakes, tranquil pastures and impressive forests.
The Welsh Highland Railway is the newest in Snowdonia.  Its trains are the most powerful narrow gauge steam locomotives in the world.  Once on board, you’ll climb rapidly into the foothills of Snowdon before zigzagging dramatically downwards into the heart of the National Park, then onwards through the magnificent Aberglaslyn Pass.  Those with a fear of heights should do their best to keep the tasty Estuary Cottage breakfast in their stomachs!
