The Irish cuisine is renowned for its diversity and unique flavor. Although the world at large is not very familiar with the traditional Irish cuisine the people’s interest in the traditional cuisine is starting to grow. Barm Brack

You will require some lukewarm milk, sugar, fresh yeast, plain flour, butter, mixed fruit such as sultanas, currants, raisins and candied peel, salt sugar and grease proof paper.

You will start off by creaming the yeast while adding the sugar and bringing about some froth in the milk. Next sieve the flour, spice and caster sugar while rubbing it in butter. Make a well like hole in the center to which you will add the yeast mixture and the beaten eggs. You will have to beat the mixture for about ten minutes to form it into a good dough. You will have to work in the fruit and the salt by hand. Following this you should add the greaseproof paper and the whole mixture kneaded. Put the contents in a warm bowl and leave in a warm place to rise until it doubles in size.

Take it out and knead lightly again and place it in a slightly greased cake tin. Leave it to rise for half an hour again. Next bake the cake for about forty minutes at 200C and serve with sugar syrup.

Corned Beef and Cabbage

This is perhaps the most well renowned Irish dish around the world. You will require corned beef, cabbage, bay leaves, onions, cold water, carrots, potatoes and black pepper for making this traditional dish.

Start off by quartering the cabbage and putting it aside. Next up peel and slice all the other vegetables on the list. On the side cover the meat with the cold water and bring to a boil on the stove. Skim the surface of the beef and add the vegetables except for the cabbage. Simmer it gently for about twenty minutes while adding the pepper. Now add the cabbage and cook for another half hour. Once ready serve the meat with mashed potatoes, as is the Irish tradition.

Buttermilk Scones

This is perhaps the most frequently baked item of Ireland. The Irish consume scones with their morning and evening tea. You will be able to find many different varieties and flavors for Irish scones. In order to get this recipe right you need to have a quick and light hand when mixing the ingredients and of course a preheated oven.

You will require some self raising soda bread flour, butter, buttermilk, eggs and salt to make Irish scones. Start off by sifting the flour and salt while rubbing in the butter. Make a well like hole in the center and pour in the beaten eggs and the buttermilk. Now you have to mix it very quickly to form a nice and soft dough. Add some more buttermilk as and when necessary.  Place the dough on a flowered surface and roll it out. Glaze the dough using the eggs and set them on a baking sheet. Your scones will be ready in about twenty minutes time.
