The IWC Portuguese Automatic Chronograph happens to be the commonly known variation serving as an entry level model. It has distinct chronograph hands, a completely balanced and highly legible dial layout, along with a substantial quantity of luminescent material incorporated for readability in dim light also.
The mechanical design
A classical chronograph display in the IWC Portuguese Automatic Chronograph watch marks elapsed time. Its automatic-winding feature is accurate and allows recording of time intervals up to half an hour, with a precision within one-eighth of a second. The unique under-dial mechanism of IWC has enabled the sub-dials to be vertically laid-out. Further, this Automatic Chronograph watch has a 44-hour power reserve. The chronograph hands are made of blue steel in order to distinguish them from the hands that show the time. IWC’s 79350 Caliber is used for the modified Valjoux 7750 movement. Its seconds sub-dial is located in the lower part, and the date wheel is absent in this watch.
IWC Portuguese Automatic Chronograph consists of a 41mm case made of steel, 18K rose gold, 18K white gold and 18K yellow gold. The dial varies corresponding to the type of case; it may be silver, black or graphite colored. The hands of the watch shaped elegantly like a leaf, along with its cabochon minute track create a great visual appeal.
The intricately-crafted three-piece case with an attractive dial and Guilloche sub-dials depict a fine and bright writing. Its polished stainless steel bezel has a dome-shaped sapphire crystal. The case and the rear part of the case are mainly brushed stainless. The watch is water-resistant up to a depth of sixty meters. A Crocodile strap is secured to the case and though it appears thin, it is has good serviceability.
