The town has close to a dozen ice cream shops, including a franchise of the national ColdStone Creamery chain. Many ice cream parlors are just a couple of blocks walking distance from the gondola stops.
Mimi’s Fried Pies
One of the most famous local spots is Mimi’s Fried Pies and Ice Cream at 411 South Main Street. This eatery’s menu offers not only pie and ice cream desserts, but main courses such as Louisiana meat pie, Shepherd’s pie, chicken pot pie as well as macaroni and cheese pie with bacon. Meal pies are made to order in four minutes and the ice cream is handmade in Denver.
Rocky Mountain Cupcakes
Rocky Mountain Cupcakes at 222 South Main Street serves an enormous array of cupcakes and ice cream. Flavor choices include cotton candy, vanilla snow, Boston cream, nutter butter, French toast, chai latte and lemon coconut. Cupcakes can be ordered with vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, carrot cake or Almond Joy batter.
The Pizza Parlor
The Pizza Parlor at 200 South Main Street has an old-fashioned ice cream parlor downstairs. The building has 20 spots of free on-site parking. You can eat vanilla soft-serve ice cream in cups, classic waffle cones, or chocolate-dipped waffle cones with one or more toppings such as Oreos, rainbow sprinkles, chocolate chips, chocolate-covered espresso beans, Heath bars and gummy bears. Milkshakes, vanilla Coke floats, cherry Coke floats, root beat floats and creamsicle floats are also available.
Upstairs, pizza choices range from North Pole – Winter Wonderland with Alfredo sauce, ricotta cheese, tomatoes, chicken breast and mozzarella to Border Patrol which is a taco pizza with salsa, jalapenos, onions, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, black olives, sour cream along with ground beef or grilled chicken breast. You could instead order a sub sandwich like Philly steak, Philly ham and pineapple or Italian-style with pepperoni, ham, red onion, banana peppers, Italian dressing and provolone. A children’s menu is available. Drink choices include beer and wine. If you did not eat enough dessert downstairs, The Pizza Parlor’s dessert menu includes hot fudge sundae brownies and several types of Philadelphia cream cheesecakes.
Silverthorne Ice Cream Shops
If you visit neighboring Silverthorne for adventures such as a tour of a massive ice castle, you can find Dairy Queen and Orange Julius. Vail also has a number of ice cream shops, including a Haagen-Daas location.
