If you want to leave your car somewhere overnight while adventuring in Breckenridge or a nearby destination, first make sure you know exactly what you are doing. Simply parking your car anywhere can lead to towing or unwanted auto break-ins. Continue reading for all the information you may need on Breckenridge overnight parking options.
RV Parks
Legal Breckenridge overnight parking options are not only very scarce, but also require you to follow specific rules and laws. You cannot legally sleep or camp in any type of passenger vehicle. RVs are usually an exception, but generally you should use a RV park rather than a traditional parking lot.
Breckenridge Ice Rink Parking Lot
The Ice Rink Lot provides overnight parking in 157 spots and is regularly patrolled by Breckenridge police officers. However, this lot does not allow oversized vehicles or RVs. The Satellite Lot, with 600 spaces, accommodates larger vehicles and can also handle passenger vehicles when the Ice Rink Lot is full.
Overnight Parking Passes
When parking overnight, you must display the pass in a visible spot on your windshield or risk being towed. The parking lots cannot be used for dumping refuse such as oil or large amounts of garbage. Nor are any of the town’s lots an appropriate place for using or dumping RV storage tanks. Town officials only offer Breckenridge overnight parking options for 14 nights, as these lots are not intended for long-term storage of vehicles.
Day Parking Lots
Breckenridge offers six additional parking lots, but they are not intended for overnight parking. You cannot legally park in lots other than the Ice Rink Lot or the Satellite Lot between the hours of 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. during the months of November through April. Also, if you park in a time-restricted lot you cannot park there again for at least another 24 hours.
Never leave children unattended in a car even if you are just leaving for a few minutes. Do not leave a pet unattended in your vehicle in extremely hot or cold temperatures. If you must leave your pet for a few minutes, make sure the windows are cracked to provide ventilation.
Even though police officers regularly monitor the overnight parking lots, you should still use basic common sense when leaving your vehicle unattended for any length of time. While Breckenridge is relatively safe especially compared to more urban tourist destinations, crime does occur. Do not leave any valuables such as cameras or cell phones in your car and make sure all doors are locked and windows rolled up. Before going on any road trip, you should have joined some kind of roadside emergency assistance program just in case you run into car trouble, run out of gas or lock your keys in the vehicle.
