The best environment for the Siberian Husky and German Shepherd Dog Mix is definitely not the desert. These dogs do not like the water therefore it is not a good idea to keep them in hot climates. They will not be able to cool down and will be agitated if they need to use water to cool down. Siberian Husky Personality Traits
The Siberian Husky and German Shepherd mix puppy is a very high energy dog. This means that you should have an active lifestyle if you want to have this dog as part of your family. They need to be busy constantly and since they are very intelligent they need brainwork. Different activities like a slide or puppy ramp should keep them very busy in the house. The dogs also need a lot of playtime and since they are very smart you can have different activities for them to stimulate their brains and use up their energy.
They should have a fenced-in yard which has ample space for the dog to run about and provide security at the same time. The dog enjoys digging normally as it grows up so be prepared to fill up the holes in the yard. An ideal companion for someone who enjoys long walks or jogs in the park, the mix of the Siberian Husky and German Shepherd is the perfect breed for an active person.
They are very good to children and young children as small as two years old can be left with them as they are very protective and playful yet not a danger.
Physical Characteristics
These dogs are fairly large and at two years of age weigh anywhere between 65 to 70 pounds. The coat is soft and fluffy and it has a very playful and docile personality. However the puppies can go a bit wild because they are hyperactive. It is not recommended that the long-haired German Shepherd be shaved in the summer to keep it cooler because the top coat is needed for UV protection.
The main threat in terms of disease is Valley fever which should be treated with a good antifungal medication. This is common amongst dogs who like to dig for fun. The dogs are very smart and can learn different tricks thereby making them interesting companions.
Both the Siberian Husky and the German Shepherds are cold weather dogs. Therefore a cross breed of the dog is also not suited to warm climates. The shepherds have four layers of fur and the husky has five so it is imaginable how hot it would feel to have for 4 winter coats in the summer.
These dogs need a lot of exercise and room to run about therefore it is a good idea to start keeping the puppy outside from five weeks onwards. However, do not leave it unattended.
These dogs are very easy to feed and the puppy takes very well to foods like milk bone, peanut butter and cream cheese. Go with the preference of the pup and they should be well fed and happy.
It is a good idea to hide treats around the house and the intelligent dog will enjoy searching around the house to sharpen their mental skills. Since the German shepherds are green, red, black or brown the Huskies are crossbred to give different colors. Both these dogs have a marking along the head and eyes. This is retained even in the crossbred dog but the color can be a surprise of any shade prevalent in either dog. The hair on the German Shepherd is course while the Huskies have soft hair and sometimes you can get the light eyes and curved tail of the husky. The shepherd is very loyal and the husky is a runner resulting in a wonderful combination in a dog.
Caring for Health
If the puppy is not eating then maybe it has worms in the summer and Siberian Husky’s generally eat very little because they have a slow metabolic rate because they are sled dogs.
