The Canadian Pacific Police badge belongs to the Canadian Pacific Police Service, better known by its abbreviation, CPPS. The CPPS is a private police force that enforces security and safety along railway tracks and all the properties of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The Canadian Pacific Police force is one of the oldest police forces in Canada, having been established in 1884.

The Canadian Pacific Police force were called upon to maintain law and order during the opening of the Canadian hinterlands through the building of railway tracks linking towns on each Canadian coast. Communication and trade was established in Canada with the Canadian Pacific Railway, which paid its own private police personnel to guard the tracks and the equipment belonging to the company. The Canadian Pacific Police badge was designed to commemorate the police force of that time.

The prominent feature of the Canadian Pacific Police badge is a beaver, the iconic mammal synonymous with Canada. The beaver sits atop a single maple leaf, another symbol associated with Canada. The badge is worn on the cap or hat and also on the shirt of the police officer.

Apart from the Canadian Pacific Police badge, the police personnel also sport the crest of the Canadian Pacific Police Service which is topped with a red crown. The jurisdiction of the police service extends to railways, tramways and transit railways. Police personnel are issued with a Glock pistol and other ‘use of force’ equipment such as a baton.

Officers Of The Canadian Pacific Police Force

The duty officers of the Canadian Pacific Police Force wear body armor over their standard uniforms of dark blue shirts and dark blue cargo pants. They wear caps that resemble ordinary police officers featuring the Canadian Pacific Police badge. Some officers are in plain clothes and report to an investigative unit. The new recruits of the Canadian Pacific Police Service attend the Lethbridge College in Alberta under an agreement with the Lethbridge Regional Police Service for police training.

Members of the Canadian Pacific Police Service whose duties involve law enforcement on the Canadian Pacific railway wear the Canadian Pacific Police badge. The badge sports a beaver over a maple leaf and is worn on the cap or hat and on the police uniform.
