North Cyprus
North Cyprus is the Turkish-speaking northern third of the island of Cyprus, occupied by Turkey since 1974 and recognised as a state only by Turkey itself. Articles look at Kyrenia (Girne) and its harbour castle, the Karpas peninsula with its wild donkeys and empty beaches, the divided capital Nicosia (Lefkosa), the Roman ruins at Salamis, the Othello Tower at Famagusta, the property dispute that still affects buying real estate, the cheap living costs that draw British retirees and the slow tourism growth. There are practical notes on the Ledra crossing and on entering and leaving from the Republic of Cyprus side.
