For those who are unaware of French toast kabobs, they are the perfect dish for brunch. Most restaurants serve it threaded on a skewer, with different sauces and some fresh fruit on the side.

This dish is perfect for any party! The following recipe will make around 20 kabobs. Kabobs are a lighter version of the French toast

Ingredients:

  • 1 large loaf of bakery bread
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • salt to taste
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Non-stick spray
  • Preferred fruit

For the blue berry sauce you need one pint of blueberries and 3/4 cup of maple syrup.

Instructions:

Cut the bread in one inch cubes and then spread them in one layer on a cookie sheet. Toast them for five to ten minutes until crisp. Make sure that they are not browned. Some people also leave them overnight so that they are a little stale. Remember that the stale bread doesn’t change the taste or quality of the kabobs.

Next, whisk milk, eggs, butter milk, salt and vanilla extract together. Slowly toss the cubes in this mixture.

Spray non stick spray on a frying pan and fry the cubes in small batches, turning each side. Both the sides should turn light brown. Keep them aside on a large cookie sheet. Separately, mix sugar and cinnamon in small bowl.

Now toss your toast bites in the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Next thread the cubes on the skewers, choosing between your favourite fruits. You can also serve with blueberry sauce or maple syrup.

For your blueberry sauce, mix together blueberries and the syrup in a saucepan. Boil and cook, keep stirring. Serve with your tasty French toast kabobs.
