The Spanish city of Granada is one of the most historically important places in the country. It is located in the region of Andalusia in the south of Spain and is a popular tourist destination for Globetrotters. Granada has many amazing sights to see for tourists. Some of those are mentioned below:

The Alhambra

Regarded as being one of the top 10 architectural wonders of the world, the Alhambra surely tops the list when it comes to sightseeing in Granada. The stunning landmark stands in the form of an ancient Moorish fortress and has acquired the honor of being a UNESCO world heritage site. It is also considered as being the finest example of Arab architecture situated outside of the Middle East.

The Muslim ruler of Spain Mohammed Ibn Nasr commissioned the construction of the Alhambra in the 13th century. The unique thing about this fortress is that it was built more like a small town that contained a collection of palaces rather than a defensive fortress. Although beautiful in terms of its construction the design was somewhat impractical as the Christian armies had little trouble in conquering the fortress in the 15th century.

El Albayzín

This is another totally distinct region of Granada that stems from a totally different Jewish faith. It is a Jewish district that has acquired the status of being a world heritage site and is situated within close vicinity of the Alhambra. Among the unique elements of this particular district are the traditional bath complexes, the church of San Salvador and Granada archaeological Museum. Visitors to the region will also be able to witness the winding streets of traditional Moorish towns along with which original Moorish houses can still be seen standing in the district. It also offers a spectacular view of the Alhambra as it is located upon a hill.

Carmen de los Mártires

This 19th century site has been transformed into a botanical garden that consists of a 19th-century house along with ornamental grounds. It offers a flabbergasting view of the Alhambra Palace as well as the city of Granada and the Sierra Nevada. The garden has been adorned with numerous statues, an ornamental duck pond, grottoes, bridges and ruins in the form of towers. It is considered to be one of the must-see sites for Granada and offers a very relaxing experience to the visitors.

The Sacromonte Hill

This is yet another unique and must-see site in the city of Granada. This hill is famous for its caves which once served as dwellings for a native Gypsy community. The hilly area is composed of a unique mixture of clay and round pebbles that is soft enough to be molded yet strong enough to serve as walls for a cave. It is from these caves that the famous Spanish flamenco dance was developed at the hands of the Gypsies under the influence of the Arabs. The caves have become public places where people were invited to witness the unique culture of the Gypsy community. Today the caves have been equipped with all modern amenities such as electricity and sanitation facilities and therefore attract visitors from all over the world.
