The Children’s Mountain Top Museum
Best suited to toddlers and children under age 8, the Breckenridge Children’s Mountaintop Museum is an interactive play center with a science area, a dress-up area and a play center with puppets. Younger children thoroughly enjoy a visit to the museum, although parents have complained about the cost which is $7.00 per child and $5.00 per adult. On days when bad weather calls for indoor activities, the Children’s Mountaintop Museum is a great place for kids to play.
Country Boy Mine
The Country Mine tour is fun and educational for every family member, not just youngsters. Opened in 1887, the Country Boy Mine has produced gold, silver, lead and zinc at different times in its more than 100 year history. It has been restored and now the tours try to demonstrate the life of gold miners and prospectors during the years of the Colorado gold rush. The Country Boy Mine is located in French Gulch and is a great way to explore the history of Breckenridge.
Breckenridge Peak 8 Fun Park
An amusement park with a mountain twist, the Breckenridge Peak 8 Fun Park has rides and activities like the Gold Runner Coaster, SuperSlide, SuperPutt, Mountain Bike Park, Colorado SuperChair, Rockpile Climbing Wall, Mineshaft Maze, Pony Rides, SuperBungee Trampoline, Gemstone Panning and Ripperoo’s Bounce House. Children of all ages can enjoy a visit to the Peak 8 Fun Park and day passes are available at a cost of $72.00.
The Georgetown Loop Railroad
Breckenridge visitors with children may enjoy the Georgetown Loop Railroad, an old time steam locomotive train ride through the mountains and historical mining areas of Summit Co. Train enthusiasts of all ages will love the historic narrow gauge train ride through mountain passes in open or closed passenger cars. Rates for the ride are $25.50 for adults and $18.50 for children age 3 to 15. Additional fees may apply for scheduled tours and activities offered by the railroad co. Reservations are recommended for this extremely popular attraction.
The Breckenridge Recreation Center
A terrific place for family entertainment, the Breckenridge Recreation Center offers an indoor pool and slide, basketball and tennis courts and two climbing walls. The Might Mite Climbing wall is designed for children ages 4 through 6. On Friday nights, the center hosts a climb and swim for children ages 6 through 12. A one month pass to the Breckenridge Recreation Center is $45 for adults, $35 for seniors and $25 for children.
Babysitting and Daycare
Sometimes parents want to get away from the kids and hit the slopes, spend a day at the spa or have a nice romantic dinner. Resort Sitters and Mountain Sitters provide pre-screened baby sitters in the Breckenridge area and the Breckenridge Children’s Center provides professional daycare services for children ages 6 months through 6 years. Rates and availability may vary so parents of young children should contact the services for additional information.
