Famous Spanish Athletes: José Manuel Abascal

José Manuel Abascal (born March 17, 1958 in Alceda, Cantabria) was a Spanish 1500 meters runner who claimed the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. In 1986 he set a personal record of 3:31.13 min. At the 1987 IAAF World Indoor Championships he achieved second place winning a silver medal.

Famous Spanish Athletes: Abel Antón Rodrigo

Abel Antón Rodrigo (born October 24, 1962 in Ojuel, Soria) is a Spanish long-distance runner, who won gold medals in the marathon at the 1997 and the 1999 Athletics World Championships . In 1998 Antón became the first Spanish runner to win the London Marathon . Rodrigo also won the 10,000 meters title at the 1994 Athletics European Championships.

Famous Spanish Athletes: Fermín Cacho Ruiz

Fermín Cacho Ruiz (born February 16, 1969) is a Spanish athlete, winner of the 1500 meters at the 1992 Summer Olympics.Ruiz was born in Ágreda, Spain. He had an excellent competitive record in the 1500 meters, but it wasn’t until late in his career that he began to be noticed on the world stage. Cacho’s first memorable result came in 1990, when he came second in the 1500 meters at the European Indoor Championships. At the 1991 World Indoor Championships in Seville, Cacho finished second again in the 1500 meters.
At the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Cacho was not thought to be a potential gold medal contender. But the Olympic 1500 meters final was run at an unusually slow pace, and Cacho positioned himself excellently in the final lap, and out ran his rivals to win the gold medal in 3:40.12.

Reyes Estévez López (born August 2, 1976 in Cornellà de Llobregat, Spain) is a Spanish 1500 meters runner who won at the European Championships final 1998 in Budapest. He also cliamed bronze medals at the 1997 World Championships, 1999 World Championships and 2005 European Indoor Championships (both 1500 and 3000 m) and silver medals at the 2001 IAAF World Indoor Championships and 2002 European Championships.
