Irish Setters
Irish Setters are a tall, lean gun dog with a long mahogany or chestnut coat, originally bred to range ahead of hunters and freeze on point when finding game birds. Articles look at the difference between the field-bred Red Setter and the heavier show-bred Irish Setter, the breed’s high energy that suits a runner more than a couch owner, the daily grooming the long coat needs to keep mats down, the need for early socialisation and the typical health issues including hip dysplasia and progressive retinal atrophy. There are also notes on the rarer Irish Red and White Setter.
