Sweden has a long and successful association with golf and has given birth to some internationally renowned golfers. Let’s have a look at some of the best Swedish golfers:

Annika Sörenstam

Born in the year 1970, Annika Sörenstam is one of the most renowned Swedish golfers of all time. With a glamorous win of 90 tournaments internationally, she is the only woman golfer who has so many wins credited to her name. She has also had the honor of winning 72 LPGA tournaments with which she is top on LPGA list of maximum career money of  $22 million, a good $8 million higher than her closest rival. Although a Swedish professional, she has held a dual citizenship of Sweden and America from 2006. She also holds a record for winning 8 Player of the Year awards and 6 Vare trophies.

From 1994-2007, she has had the honor of being the representative for Europe in the Solheim Cup. She had her name etched in the history of golf when she played as the first woman golfer since 1945 to play in a men’s golf PGA Tour during the year 2003. She has her own charitable organization, co-branded (ANNIKA) products, golf academy and golf course design.

Helen Alfredsson

Born in the year 1965, Helen is a Swedish golfer by profession who plays in the LPGA Tour. She is also a member of the Ladies European Tour. She was Sweden’s representative in European Junior and Senior team championships. She won the Espirito Santo Trophy in the year 1986 and 1988. Her professional journey commenced in the year 1989 in Ladies European Tour and later ventured into Women’s British Open in the year 1990. She won two awards in the Ladies European Tour, one in Japanese Tours and one in ALPG.

Peter Hanson

He is another renowned professional Swedish golfer who ventured into golf professionally in the year 1998. He has also actively participated in the European tour and the Challenge Tour. To date he has a total of 10 professional wins to his credit. In the year 1998, he won the “Gunther Hamburg Classics” in the Challenge tour and later in the year 2005 he won “Open de Espana” in the European Tour. During the Steve Trophy of 2005 and 2007, he was an active member of the Continental Europe Team. From the year 2007, he has consistently made it to the Official World Golf Ranking of top 50 golfers internationally and has also been in the top 20 of the European Tour Order of Merit too. His best position has been a ranking of 16 during 2008 and 2009.
